People, it was an empty threat.
When I said I wanted to cut my facebook list down to 20 people, it was like me saying I'd be perfectly happy as a self-sufficient single woman ... only to marry Larry five months later (which was the best decision I ever made, since I can hardly call falling head-over-heels in love with Jesus a decision).
That's my whole point. As much as I want to be one of those quiet, private, self-composed people with a tight circle of friends, I just can't help finding everyone I meet (or don't meet, thanks to Twitter and facebook) to be a fascinating new potential bff. Sigh.
I once had a friend who oh-so carefully peeled and chopped her toddler's grapes ... as I encouraged my own toddler to catch with his mouth the grapes that I tossed him. Even then, I wanted to be careful and proper, but those delightful squeals from Chad as he danced around catching juicy balls in his mouth was irresistible.
I want to be Jane Bennett, beautiful and calm, but I'm little Orphan Annie singing my heart out for the world to see. I want to be the trusty golden retriever who quietly loves and serves her people, but I'm the silly otter who splashes and plays. I want to be a cool blue, but I'm a bright orange. You get the idea.
I'm not cutting any friends. I'm out looking for more. I am an ENFP (http://www.personalitypage.com/ENFP.html), whether I like it or not. I might as well use my personality for good.
How about you? What is your personality, and do you waste your energy trying to be something you're not?
