Out-laws
I'm going to be a mother-in-law soon—and I'm learning that we're not the most popular people in the world. Besides that, I'm already an evil step-mother, as my sweet Lydia likes to call me. And my own kids no longer think I hung the moon (that might have stopped awhile ago...).
I'm starting to get a complex.
Lucky for me I have some wonderful examples of mothers who stuck it out even when they weren't popular. I remember when I was first married at the age of 19, I couldn't stand my mother-in-law. Every time Eunice came over she would bring a bag of groceries—and I was horrified. "She doesn't even trust me to take care of my own family," I would whine to my best friend. Being the wise woman she was, Eunice kept on loving me no matter how unlovable I was, and pretty soon I trusted her so much that I started to grumble when the grocery bags didn't show up. And now, even though her son and I are no longer married, this remarkable woman is as much my mom as she ever was.
Role models like Eunice give me the strength to keep on loving even when its hard—and the hope that someday I'll be loved back.
Who are some of your role models that help you make it through your day-to-day life?

I'm a stepmom and a mother -in-law while only 35 and still raising my two young girls. All you can be is the best you you can be. I'm finding that love usually wins out in the end. :)
